The 2025/26 season is here, and all members must complete their annual Skill Maintenance (SM) to remain proficient. Please review the information below to prepare for your upcoming session.

What’s New This Season

  • Included this season:

    • Lifesaving CPR (new)

    • Run–Swim–Rescue (timed: 3:30 minutes or less, fins optional)

    • Signals

    Not included this season:

    • Run–Swim–Run

    • Board Rescue

    • Tube Rescue

    • Spinal

Bilinga SLSC Skill Maintenance Dates

  • Sunday 14 September 2025 – 8:00am

  • Sunday 28 September 2025 – 8:00am

  • Sunday 19 October 2025 – 8:00am

  • Sunday 2 November 2025 – 8:00am

  • Sunday 23 November 2025 – 8:00am

Award-Specific Requirements

Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC)

Pool Swim (required only if: no SM last season, or completing after 31 Dec):

  • 200m in ≤ 5 minutes

  • Conducted in a pool of 25m or larger

  • No fins or swimming aids allowed

Bronze Medallion

To complete Skills Maintenance, members must hold Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue) PUA21012 or PUA20119.

Requirements:

  • Theory: complete online videos + Bronze theory assessment questions

  • Pool Swim (required only if: no SM last season, or completing after 31 Dec):

    • 400m in ≤ 9 minutes

    • Conducted in a pool of 25m or larger

    • No fins or swimming aids allowed

Theory Component (Online)

All Bronze Medallion and SRC members must complete:

  • A 3-minute update video (changes to SM and SLS procedures)

  • Lifesaving CPR eLearning module (approx. 20 minutes)

This must be completed before attending your session.

Practical Components

Bronze Medallion & Surf Rescue Certificate
  1. Run–Swim–Rescue (timed)

    • 100m run → 100m swim with rescue tube → patient rescue

    • Time limit: 3 minutes 30 seconds or less

    • Fins optional

  2. Signals

    • Demonstrate beach-to-water and water-to-beach signals

  3. Resuscitation (CPR)

    • New for 2025/26: Lifesaving CPR included at SM sessions

Powercraft Skills Maintenance

IRB Crew

Requirements:

  • Proficient Bronze Medallion

  • Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)

  • Participation in IRB discussion (operational requirements, Powercraft Safety Management System)

  • Demonstrate safe crewing practices, including:

    • Crewing positions (rise, standing, lock-in, emergency punch)

    • Re-boarding the IRB

    • Awareness of Powercraft Code of Conduct

Silver Medallion IRB Driver

Requirements:

  • Proficient Bronze Medallion + IRB Crew

  • Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)

  • Current marine licence

  • Participation in IRB discussion (operational requirements, Powercraft Safety Management System)

  • Demonstrate safe driving practices, including:

    • 1 o’clock wave negotiation

    • Parallel running

    • Awareness of Powercraft Code of Conduct
